Noticeboard

Death notices with the janaza and burial times, plus events and announcements on your public page.

The noticeboard is what your masjid tells the community: a death and the janaza arrangements, a programme coming up, an announcement. It is off until an administrator turns it on, and even then nothing reaches your public page until somebody publishes it.

The three kinds

Death notice
A death in the community, with the janaza and burial times at each place. Anyone on your committee can file one, and only an administrator can put it on the public page.
Event
A programme, a class, a meeting. There is no separate check: whoever manages your records writes it and publishes it.
Announcement
Anything else the community should know. Stays on the page for a week after the date on it.

A death notice is checked first

A death notice involves two people: whoever hears the news files it, and an administrator decides whether to publish it. The notice keeps both names, and neither can be changed later, so it always shows who reported it and who published it.

Filing a death notice

  1. Open Noticeboard and choose File a notice, then Death notice.
  2. Search the register for the person. Picking them links the notice to their member record; when the notice is published, their subscription stops. Leave it blank for someone your register does not hold, and just type the name.
  3. Add the family line as it should read on the notice, for example S/o Abdullah, the age, and the household.
  4. Give the date and, if it is known, the time of death. The date cannot be later than today.
  5. Choose File for review. Nothing is published. You land on the notice itself, where the janaza times go in.

Janaza and burial times

A funeral in a mahallu rarely happens in one place. The notice holds a list of stops in the order they happen, so a visitor can see exactly where to be and when. Add one row for each.

What happens here
Body kept for visits, janaza prayer, or the burial.
Session name
What this part is called. A programme needs it ("Qur'an recitation", "Speech by the Ustad", "Dinner"); a janaza can leave it blank.
Kind of place
House, masjid, qabarstan or hall. It tells a reader at a glance which stop is which.
Place
The name people will recognise, for example Juma Masjid, Town.
Date and time
Leave the time blank while it is still being settled. The notice can go out without it and reads "Time to be confirmed" until you fill it in.
Map link
Paste a Google Maps link and visitors get a Map button.
Order
Lower numbers come first. This is the order the stops are listed in.

Sharing it

Every published notice has a page of its own. Share that page, not your homepage: it opens straight on this notice and its janaza times, while the homepage lists whatever is current.

  1. Open the published notice and use Send on WhatsApp, or Copy link to paste it anywhere.
  2. Whoever receives it sees the name, the age and the first janaza in the WhatsApp preview, before they even open it. If your masjid shows photographs, the photograph is the preview image.
  3. The page itself carries the full order of janaza prayers and the burial, with a Map button wherever you added a map link, and its own share buttons so it keeps travelling.

Publishing

  1. An administrator opens the notice. The list also shows a waiting to be checked panel at the top so nothing sits unnoticed.
  2. Read it through and correct anything that needs correcting.
  3. Choose Publish to the public page. The notice goes up, and the person is marked deceased on your register from that date.
  4. If it should not go out, choose Turn it down and give a reason. The reason is for whoever filed it, and is never shown publicly.

What each status means

Awaiting review
Filed, but not published. Only your committee can see it. A death notice always starts here, even when an administrator filed it.
Published
On your public page, until it expires on its own.
Turned down
An administrator decided not to publish it. The reason is shown to whoever filed it and is never public.
Withdrawn
It was published and has been taken back off. If publishing it had marked someone deceased on your register, withdrawing undoes that.

Events and announcements

An event asks for a heading, when it starts and ends, a venue and, if you like, a poster. It has no review stage. A programme that runs over several parts adds a session for each, using the same rows a funeral uses for its janaza prayers: give each one a name and a time and the public page lists the whole evening in order. Events are shown soonest first and disappear once they are over, so nothing on the page is ever out of date.

Common questions

Who can file a death notice?

Anyone signed in to your masjid, including a cluster leader. Whoever hears first can file it, without waiting for an administrator.

Who can publish one?

Only an administrator. Filing never publishes, even when an administrator files it; publishing is a separate step. Both names are kept on the notice and cannot be changed afterwards.

Does it stop their subscription?

Yes, when the notice is linked to someone on your register. Publishing records the date of death on their member record, and their dues stop accruing. A date already recorded is never overwritten.

We published one by mistake. What now?

Withdraw it. It comes off the public page at once, and the date of death that publishing recorded is removed from the register so their subscription carries on as before.

Can there be more than one janaza prayer?

Yes, as many as you need. One at the house, one at the neighbourhood masjid and the burial at the masjid with the qabarstan is the ordinary case, and each is its own row with its own place, time and map link.

Do we have to show a photograph?

No. Photographs are off by default for the whole masjid. Turning them off later hides every photograph already on a notice, without changing any of the notices themselves.

Does anyone get a message when we publish?

No. Nothing is sent automatically. You can share the notice’s link from your own WhatsApp, but the app never messages your members on its own.

How long does a notice stay up?

Three days after the last janaza or burial time on it, by default. An administrator can change that in Settings. After that it leaves the public page on its own and stays in your noticeboard for good.
