WhatsApp messages (beta)

WhatsApp messages let your committee reach members where they already are. From the Messages section you can send payment reminders to members who are behind on their subscription, and short announcements to the members you choose. The same WhatsApp connection also powers member registration verification and WhatsApp sign-in.

What you can send

Two things: a payment reminder to members with an Outstanding amount, and a free-form message such as an announcement, optionally with an image. The amount owed in a reminder is worked out for you at the moment you send, so it is always up to date.

Personalising a message

In a free-form message you can use {name} for the member's name and {masjid} for your masjid's name. {org} fills in the same name and is the one the composer suggests if you call yourself something other than a masjid, so a message written either way keeps working. Each member then receives their own personalised copy. A live counter shows how close you are to the message length limit.

Sending a message

1. Open Messages from the menu. Only finance roles see it.
2. Write your message, using {name} and {masjid} (or {org}) where you want them filled in, and attach an image if you need one.
3. Choose the members to send to. Members without a saved number are shown so you know they cannot be reached.
4. Send. You will see how many messages went out and, if any could not be delivered, which ones and why.

Limits and good practice

To keep messaging responsible, a send covers up to a set number of members at a time, and there is a limit on message length and image size. These limits are set by the platform administrator. Send only messages your members expect from the masjid, and keep the tone respectful. It is your masjid's WhatsApp presence, so what you send reflects on the committee.
